Letters to Talismán

19th June, 2011
Sir,

In response to your comment on illegal CD´s being sold on terraces...

It is not only illegal it is scuppering our local economy!

Is it right that we purchase or allow the resale of illegal CD's on our terraces and deny a living for bonefide businesses, who contribute to the local community, such as Total Entertainment and Video Land?
As bar owners wouldn't we like Gareth and Buzz to have a little more in their pocket so they can drink and eat more often in our bars and restaurants? Yes, so why are we allowing it?  Its not enough to say its the duty of the Police to "crack down" on such issues. Isn't it our responsibility as a community, especially in hard time such as these, to help one another? So pull your finger out and stop buying this junk and start renting - you will not only be contrubuting to the local economy (instead of China's) but you will also be helping the environment... Do the right thing!
Janet Chamberlain, Mojacar

Sir,

Do you know, I have to just say how much I am enjoying the Talisman, notably the out and about but it is really great. Even the weather is quite an exciting feature!

I was surprised to hear that Helen is back. I remember her 'happenings' and recall that some pea-brained people (oh yes, they abounded even in those days) kept pillorying her until in the end she gave up the column. It is so annoying that small minded people seem able to spoil things for the rest of us.

However, if the demise of her column led to your out and about column Petter, then all was not lost by a long chalk. Loved the painting by the way!! ( 'Dawkins and God' - ed )

Do keep up the good work - please!
Much love M. & J. xx

Sir,

Hi,
I really enjoyed reading the magazine - an excellent read and I am very glad you're back in the business.

As you know we are regular visitors to Mojacar and, as we haven't been over this year, it was good to catch up on all the goings on and I have to say I smiled all the way through reading your column. So thanks for your amusing way of writing.

We (I and Tony) were pleased to hear that Badger's Bar is still open, what with so many places closing, and I assume Mi Taberna is still open (hope so anyway).

I had a nightmare last night: That we arrived in Mojacar only to find everything boarded up! Thank goodness it was just a dream, although in reality I do hope Mojacar picks up and business will start to thrive again like the old days. Put the prices down I say, especially the rentals, then we would be able to visit more often.

On another note, brilliant that Bobbyoaky has come out of retirement and is bringing music to the people again - we wish him all the best. Also good to know that 'Major Tom' is still lurking - how about 'Bald Eagle' do you know how he is?

Thanks again for a good read Petter and hope to be visiting Mojacar again soon.
Regards,
Christine from Milton Keynes
(Tony sends his too!)
